What is an EPD
The Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) is a globally registered document that communicates transparent and comparable information through a complete mapping of a product’s environmental footprint.
EPD (also called Type III Environmental Declaration according to ISO Standard) is developed following the international standard ISO 14025 and takes into account the rules of homogeneous product category rules (PCR).
This standardized, consistent, and documented environmental declaration ( the EPD information ) enables a company’s prospective customers to check whether the environmental attributes ( characteristics ) of the products or services meet their expectations.
Multiple datasets of the company are included in an EPD:
- Consumption of energy, water, and renewable resources, water and soil, and emissions to air.
- Environmental Management System.
- Environmental Certifications.
This data is aggregated and compiled through various environmental impacts of climate change (carbon footprint), resource depletion, and air, water, and soil pollution.
All EPDs that are registered on the International EPD® System, through EPD Egypt, become publicly communicated and internationally recognized for their global market alignment.
To develop an EPD, the company acquires an independent third-party consultant for its LCA process and a certified EPD verifier. Read more on EPD Development Steps
